Time buzzes on by while I am not. How can that be? I should be able to stop time and let me catch up. But no.

A little silly story for you. When I was a kid, I would stay up for the New Year, waiting for something special to happen. I was always a bit disappointed because even though we had fireworks and sometimes company and so on, I was waiting for something magical at midnight.

All the adults would get so excited at midnight, surely something otherworldly happened! I never understood it, of course, till I was much older.

It is magical, in that we completed a trip around the sun. We lived and loved (and sometimes lost).I think of midnight as a little dot on my calendar that says here I am and here I go!

Of course, we could be morbid and say Death, I’m coming for you! But I’d rather think of it as slipping into another dimension. Very Dr. Who timey wimey sort of thing. LOL

Every new year, I try to make a topic or word or something to focus on. This year it’s more than just one word, though if I were to put it in one word, it would be “level up!” like Mario. 🙂

So just how will I level up?

I’m not a fast writer. I mean I can type fast, but when it comes to writing on my novel, my brain goes into the world of my book and there I am writing as fast or slow as the story comes. I always think I’ll get more done than I actually do. I’m not one of those who are in a hurry to pound out five or ten books a year. No way. However, I sure would like to get one or two! (Then I’ll will see how I can level up from that.)

I’ve done 40 plus years of eight, ten, twelve hours a day working on my feet mostly, five, six, seven days a week. You get in this gear and as long as you stay in that gear, it’s easy. But if you shift out of it, say get back to five days a week, eight hours a day, it’s sure hard to jump into more overtime, especially with two kids, and later, a new husband. Life has a way of making everything complicated, and more especially writing!

So I browsed around for some inspiration. Something I can look to, look at, remind me to level up and saw our Texas flag. Started reading about it (actually started reading about the King Ranch, the largest ranch in Texas, then the flag) and I liked what I read. (sans politcs y’all)

The Texas Flag Code assigns the following symbolism to the colors of the Texas flag: blue stands for loyalty, white for purity, and red for bravery.

The code also states that the single (lone) star “represents ALL of Texas and stands for our unity as one for God, State, and Country“.

Along with the flag of Hawaii, it is one of two state flags to have previously served as a national flag of an independent country.

The idea of the “lone star” is, in fact, an older symbol predating the flag which was used to symbolize Texans’ solidarity in declaring independence from Mexico.

The five points of the star represent the characteristics of a good citizen, which are fortitude, loyalty, righteousness, prudence, and broadmindedness.

Things which I will strive for this coming New Year. Along with finishing 2 (min) books this year. One almost done on the first draft. My goal is to push myself a bit more this year and find a way to make it my “resonant frequency” without being stressful.

What are your New Year goals?

However y’all think of it… Happy and productive 2024!
